This doesn't appear to be a general issue with XnViewMP — on macOS 15.5, creating albums works as user0 described, at least for me (XnViewMP 1.9.2).

Whether with or without a selected image, the app entered is not opened. It doesn't matter which app it is, none of them open. I have tried various image editors such as Acorn, the Affinity apps, but also others such as Forklift or FlowVision.

The menu items can be selected after switching to viewer mode, but are sometimes grayed out again when switching to browser mode or closing the settings dialog.
