you use only 'Edit IPTC' dialog, and .bak comes? on which format?
Sometimes it happens when using "Edit Comment" and sometimes with "Edit IPTC/XMP"

I only ever do this with jpegs.
Sometimes, not always??
The creation of the .bak files is sometimes and very random.

which filter do you use? Images?
In the "Filter by" drop-down menu, "Images" is selected.
In the same menu, Star rating = "All" and Color ratings = "All"

jpegs Mysteriously Disappear in XnViewMP

64-bit Windows 7 Pro I am frequently having a situation where jpeg files that I know for fact are in a given folder are not displaying in XnViewMP; it is as if they don't exist. Sometimes, a jpeg will be displaying and then just disappear. Up until now, I have always been able to just switch XnViewM...

Re: bak Files ???

I installed the most recent version. I went to Settings > General > File Operations and unchecked "Make backup for other lossless operations", in fact, all three "Make Backup" options are unchecked. I closed and restarted. After all that, within minutes, it had made several more .bak files. The only...

The only time I do not want messed with is the "Date Taken" My folder synchronizing program has the option to skip files with the same time stamp and works a lot quicker with that option; however, I am h...

.bak are created when using lossless operation. You can disable them in settings>General>File operations>Make backup...
I am sorry, but search as I may, I am not seeing anything in Settings that will permit me to change this behavior.
I have version 0.81 x64 (27-Jun-2016)

bak Files ???

At least on my machine, XnView MP has an annoying habit of randomly producing .bak files. These .bak files show up as thumbnails right alongside the real image file. I have no idea what the purpose of a .bak file could be. This behavior is quite random. What is the purpose and benefit, if any, of th...

Re: IPTC-XMP "Source" Tab

Thanks for the link/address. I think I have got a pretty good understanding of everything except for red letters A, B, C, and D in my initial post. Letter "A" seems to be simple enough, "Content Location Name" ; however, I have entered information in that field on several test images and I cannot th...

IPTC/XMP Editor Question Number 2

In the "options" tab of the IPTC/XMP editor, there is a check-box "Keep Original Date/Time File Attributes" ; this box is unchecked by default. What is the difference in having this box checked as opposed to being unchecked ? The only Date/Time that I care anything about is "Date/Time Taken" and I D...

XNViewMP_IPTC-XMP_SourceTab.png Could someone please explain in plain old country-boy English what should be entered in each field that are denoted by the red letters ? E, F, G, H, I, and K are fairly self-explanatory. > 1. What is A__Content Location Name ? > 2. What is B__Content Location Code .....

How do I attach Keyword Tags to Video Files ???

I need to attach keyword tags to my various video files; some are mpg, some are AVI, and just about anything else one would acquire in a Windows collection of videos. I blundered around with a mpg file and managed to write a "description", but it made a little sidecar file and I can only see my new ...
