Apparently XnView Classic doesn't handle UTF-8 character codes.
It should probably show a question-mark (?) or some other unprintable character for UTF-8 characters found in a filename, instead of not showing the file at all.

Request: Batch Rename: option to renumber using 1st set of digits in file names, not last digits
On the Batch Rename window, offer a saved option to build the Name template so that the 1st set of digits in the file names is replaced by #'s instead of the last set of digits in the file names. As an example, I use file names that contain: 1. a person's name 2. a sequence number of the picture 3. ...

Re: Request: Batch Rename: option to renumber using 1st number in file names, not last number
What I would really like is an option that changes how Xnview generates the Name template when I select and rename multiple files: If I select and rename: - Michael Jackson-100_Jam 1992 - Michael Jackson-101_Jam 1992 - Michael Jackson-102_Jam 1992 Xnview presents the Batch Rename window with: . Name...

Option to change Name Template when renaming files
Currently, when renaming multiple files, XnView generates a name template with the ###... symbols inserted for the last set of digits in the files. As an example, if I select and rename multiple files of the form: PersonsName-010-Location-02-15-2019 PersonsName-011-Location-02-15-2019 PersonsName-01...

When renaming a group of files - add option to replace 1st number, not last
my photos are organized by name, 5-digit set/photo #, descriptive title, and date (mm/dd/yyyy). I frequently need to renumber a set of photos to insert or remove a photo from a set. When I do a batch rename, I must always edit the name template to replace the #### with the actual year and replace th...

Re: renumbering with numbers in multiple places in the templ
Your problem is complicated by the fact that in practice the customer_name part of each filename will vary in length, which isn't reflected in the example problem posted above. I suspect the only way to get the general solution you need will be to use Regular expressions which are supported in seve...

Re: renumbering with numbers in multiple places in the templ
Comments? Maybe I have some. It would be a plus if XnView had more flexible batch renamer. While this feature is in consideration and development, probably you could see if you can do what you want with some utility which specializes in renaming, like Advanced Renamer (it's free) or some another? I...

renumbering with numbers in multiple places in the template
I frequently want to renumber multiple picture files containing month/year publication dates in the file name. I need to use the 1st set of digits in the file name to maintain a relative chronological order of the different sets of files while keeping files related to a particular order, together. A...
