I like to carry XnView around on every SD-Card I have in use.
For that I like smallest size (done with UPX) and least number of files.
XnView.exe and XnView.ini are necessary and should be enough.
How can I avoid to get the files category.db and category.bak?

Re: Minimal XnView
This is a good idea.
Especially for future XnView MP in where the 'browser' and other hefty things could be removed for a special super-lite build just leaving the viewer only within the app.

Re: Minimal XnView
Doesn't work in latest version (1.98.2).
Still writes files category.db and category.bak and sometimes default.bar.

Doesn't work in another latest version (1.98.4).
Still creates files category.db and category.bak, default.bar and cache folder.
I think I have to give up this request, although it shouldn't be too much work to suppress creation of those files.
Aside that, creating a cache folder with disabled caching doesn't make sense to me.

I support your request to surpress the creation of unused/unnecessary (from user perspective) files, Lesmo.Lesmo16 wrote:.. Aside that, creating a cache folder with disabled caching doesn't make sense to me.
But:
Special options for switching the creation of files off should not be needed and be avoided, I think. Instead, XnView should be smart enough not to create cache files if caching is set off. And there shouldn't be a category file created if the user does not use categories at all.

Still the same in v2.04 ...helmut wrote:I support your request to surpress the creation of unused/unnecessary (from user perspective) files, Lesmo.Lesmo16 wrote:.. Aside that, creating a cache folder with disabled caching doesn't make sense to me.

Re: Minimal XnView
Just tested with v2.30 ...
- still creates a folder named 'cache' although caching is disabled.
- still creates 'default.bar' after having a look in the toolbar options.
- still creates 'category.db', plus 'category.bak' after next start.
I tried to delete the categories, but they are rebuild after restart.
Any chance for changing that, Pierre?
